Overwatch

RyanRyan rating: 9 out of 10, Standout

I REALLY didn't want to like Overwatch as much as I do. In fact, I fought it every step of the way. I had absolutely no intention of getting sucked into this game, and yet here I am, completely and utterly hooked. What started as something I figured I'd play occasionally with the guys has turned into one of the games I look forward to playing the most. And as much as it pains me to admit it, Overwatch is a DAMN good video game!

With a MASSIVE roster of heroes spread across Tanks, DPS, and those medic dudes that forget I exist, there's an almost ridiculous amount of variety. Every character has unique abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and playstyles. You can spend hours mastering one hero, only to switch to another and feel like you're learning an entirely different game. Whether you're diving headfirst into the enemy team, picking people off from a distance, or desperately trying to keep your teammates (Josh) alive, there's something for everyone.

But what REALLY surprised me is just how tactical Overwatch can be. On the surface, it looks like a colorful, chaotic hero shooter where everyone is running around shooting like crazy. But underneath all that chaos is a surprisingly deep game of strategy, positioning, teamwork, and counterplay.

The hero counter system is one of the most fascinating (and frustrating) aspects of the entire game. You can be absolutely DOMINATING with a character, feeling like an unstoppable killing machine, and then suddenly the enemy team makes a couple of hero swaps and your entire world comes crashing down. That character you were destroying everyone with? Yeah, now you're getting absolutely embarrassed because someone decided to pull out your kryptonite. Looking at you Domina.

And THAT is where Overwatch really shines.

It's not always about who has the fastest reflexes or the best aim. Sometimes it's about who can outthink the other team. Recognizing what the enemy is doing, understanding which heroes counter, and making adjustments on the fly can completely change the outcome of a match. There's something incredibly satisfying about getting your teeth kicked in, making a smart character swap, and suddenly turning the tables on the team that was just steamrolling you. I will absolutely give Ace, Josh and his daughter Cass credit they are like our favorite boneless friend Gumby, FLEXIBLE!

Now, don't get me wrong. Overwatch can also be one of the most INFURIATING games I've ever played. I can have a 20-3 with 15k damage blocked one match and the next I'm lucky if I'm 5-5. But somehow, even after getting absolutely demolished, I find myself saying those dangerous three words...

"Just one more."

And we all know how that goes.

What makes the game so addictive is how rewarding it feels when everything finally clicks. When your tank creates the perfect opening, your support keeps everyone alive, and your DPS capitalize on the opportunity, it's an incredible feeling. Those moments where your team works together like a well-oiled machine make all the frustrating losses worth it... kind of.

But here's the part that matters the most to me.

As much as I enjoy the gameplay, strategy, characters, the thing that has truly made me fall in love with Overwatch is the time I get to spend with my homies. Between work, family, responsibilities, and everything else that comes with being an adult, finding time to just hang out with your buddies isn't always easy. And Overwatch has become that place for us. It's where we get to unwind, laugh like crazy, talk trash (even if Ace hates when I chat in game) make fun of each other, and occasionally pull off a team wipe. Some nights we're locked in, communicating, coordinating our abilities, and playing like we actually know what we're doing. Other nights? Well, let's just say there's a reason we're podcast hosts and not professional Overwatch players.

Is Overwatch perfect? Absolutely not. There are balancing issues, frustrating heroes, questionable matchmaking, and moments that will test every ounce of patience you have. But when you combine its incredibly diverse roster, surprisingly deep tactical gameplay, addictive competitive nature, and the ability to create unforgettable moments with friends, you have something pretty dang special.

Oh and by the way... ITS FREE!!!!!
