We do not sell your data

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We do not run ads. The only companies that handle your data are the ones that run the site for us (Cloudflare for hosting, Supabase for the database) and the services you choose to sign in or link with (Discord, Patreon, Steam), and only to do that job.

What the site collects

The site has no ads and no tracking cookies. Our host (Cloudflare) keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.

Site stats

To see which pages and games people use, the site counts page views and a few clicks: opening a game's card, links to other sites (like a podcast app or a store), playing a trailer, making a search (not what you searched for), and sharing. Each count keeps the page, the kind of device (phone, tablet, or computer), the country, the site you came from, and whether you were signed in.

There are no cookies for this and nothing is stored on your device. To count each visitor once a day, your IP address and browser name are scrambled with a random key that is replaced every day and then thrown away, so a visit can not be traced back to you or linked to another day. Your IP address itself is never stored. The detailed counts are deleted after 90 days; only daily totals are kept. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, nothing is counted.

Member accounts

You can sign in with Discord or Patreon to keep game lists and ratings. Members must be 13 or older, and you confirm it when you set up your profile (we keep the date you did). When you sign in we keep:

  • Your Discord or Patreon account number, and your Discord name and picture link, to sign you in and show your badges. Your Discord name and picture show on your profile only if you turn them on. The hosts and moderators look over new Discord pictures and can switch one that breaks the Community rules back to a pixel icon.
  • For Patreon, your Patreon username and which VGP tier you support. We never ask Patreon for your email or real name.
  • No email address. Discord sends us your account email when you sign in; we delete it right away. A Discord account with only a phone number can sign in too.
  • If you link Steam to import games: your Steam ID and Steam name. Your owned games, playtime, and wishlist are read from Steam only when you press "Load my library", and only the games you choose to import are kept, on your lists. When a game you import is new to the site, we add its public Steam store details (name, release date, platforms, genres, developer, publisher, game modes, age rating) with a link to its Steam store page; its cover is shown from Steam's own servers. We never see or keep your Steam password. Unlink Steam at any time.
  • Your username, the genres you follow, your game lists, and your ratings: what you add yourself.
  • Your Discord roles in the VGP server, read once a day for badges (we never change them).
  • The game you are playing right now, only if you turn on “Playing now” (it starts off) and Discord shows your activity to the VGP server. It shows as “Playing now” on your profile and Community card. We keep only the current game and remove it when you stop; while the switch is off, we do not keep it at all.

Your profile starts private. Nobody else sees it until you turn on Community listing, and then only signed-in members of the VGP Discord can see it. Your profile link stays private too (anyone else gets "page not found") unless you make the link public, so you can share it. Your hypes count toward a game's hype total either way, but never by name.

Sign-in uses two small cookies that keep you signed in, and one that lets the menu show "My account". You can delete your account at any time from your account page: that removes your profile, lists, ratings, badges, and linked accounts.

Where it is kept. Member data, including anything from Discord, Patreon, and Steam, is stored in the United States (our database runs in the US West, Oregon).

Videos and trailers

Episode videos use YouTube’s standard player, and trailers use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player. Nothing from YouTube loads until you press play. After that, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.

Links to other sites

Links to podcast apps, stores, news sites, Discord, and Patreon go to sites with their own privacy policies.
